Malaab was once a shared physical space in Beirut and now exists as an editorial project—an experiment to reconnect and continue interrupted conversations initiated by visual artist Joan Baz. The second edition of Malaab was created in response to an invitation from Baz to Nasri Sayegh, Ayman Hassan, and Raafat Majzoub to join her in reflecting on the archives of Al-Mashtal, her family’s former plant nursery, which has inspired public projects across the Arab world. Over several months, this collective invoked speculative futures for the Arab world through the lens of Souad, a figure born from the folding and unfolding of trees, flowers, and generational dreams.
